Low Residue Diet
A low residue diet is one that is designed to help reduce the amount of stools that are excreted in a day’s time. It may be necessary for people to be on a low residue diet in a variety of different circumstances. For example, women in the first and second stages of labor may need to be on one of these types of diets. Other people who may be required to be on a low residue diet may be those who have a bowel inflammation problem or those who have Crohn’s disease, or ulcerative colitis. Sometimes a low residue diet is administered to people with diabetes as well. Usually those who are on a low residue diet will be only on it for a short time because the requirements of such a diet are usually very strict. Furthermore, usually these types of diets are only needed for a very short period of time. Then, when the situation is corrected followers of this type of diet will usually return to normal eating patterns whenever possible. Either that or their low residue diet may be modified.
Sample Foods Included In A Low Residue Diet
Sample foods included in a low residue diet include most of the foods that people are normally meant to either avoid or to only eat in moderation. For example, those who are on a restrictive low residue diet will eat white bread, butter, cheese, corn flakes, and/or white pasta. They are also required to eat cooked or canned pears, skinned grapes, peeled mash potatoes, soft carrots, and so on. Additional Notes A low residue diet would be pretty much the opposite of what a high fiber or high residue diet would include. Most people would be worried about not letting out enough feces. However, some people are not in a position to worry about how much waste that they let out of their bodies, but instead are concerned about other health issues. These are the ones that are usually required to be on a low residue diet. Sometimes pets who are not feeling their best may benefit from a low residue diet as well. For example, there is a low residue diet for cats that may be necessary to follow in some cases. For additional information it is best to contact a health care professional. They can give you all the advice you need regarding this type of diet.
