Green Tea
Green Tea has quite a few nutritional benefits. There are different types of green tea on the market. One of the benefits of green tea is that it contains antioxidants in them such as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG helps slow down and/or kill cancer cells without harming healthy body tissue. EGCG also has been known to lower LDL cholesterol and also helps fight against unusual occurrences of blood clotting. Antioxidants in green tea also help build up the body’s immune system. This strengthened immune system helps prevent infectious diseases. Green tee also helps prevent heart attack, stroke, rheumatoid arthritis, and more. Green tea is also used by people used in weight loss programs. What makes green tea so effective is the way it is produced. The leaves of this tea are steamed in order to get the full effects of the EGCG that is contained within them. This is much different than the fermentation process which is used to create other types of tea, such as black tea or oolong tea.
There are many different types of Green Tea. For instance, there are several hundred varieties of Chinese green tea (i.e. longjing, gunpowder, Hua Ding) that are produced every single year. Additionally, quite a few varieties of Japanese are produced every single year as well (example: gyokuro, matcha, and sencha).
Green tea thought also to be a substance that promotes weight loss. According to some studies, green tea helps cause slow release of carbohydrates, thus helps burn fat. This increased amount of fat burned causes the body’s metabolism to increase. The teas that are served from the natural leaf form are generally thought of to be most beneficial to the health. However, some teas such as iced sweetened Lipton green tea, or great tea with citrus are created to help tea drinkers enjoy the taste more. There are also diet supplements that are made from green tea extracts that are sold to help people lose weight. However, those who used these types of pills are advised to do research on them. Generally speaking, green tea is best in its natural form. For those who drink green tea on a daily basis there is generally no worry about side effects, except possible insomnia from the caffeine intake. However, the concentration of caffeine in green tea is not as high as coffee.
