Grapefruit Diet
There are quite a bit of food diets such as the 3-day, 7-day, or the 12-day grapefruit diet that are labeled as mayo clinic diets. These diets along with other ones such as the cottage cheese or egg diet are not administered by the Mayo Clinic. Basically what a grapefruit, egg, or cottage cheese diet consists of is eating as much as a person wants of one of those particular foods along with other foods on a grapefruit diet menu. Furthermore, users of this type of diet are usually restricted from drinking beverages that contain caffeine, alcohol, and other questionable substances. Usually a health establishment such as the Mayo Clinic (along with other organizations such as the American Heart Association) promotes diets that encourage gradual weight loss. They do not support diets that require a person to eat just a certain amount of foods in order to lose weight. It is true, however, that the grapefruit diet or similar diets could help a person lose weight. The problem is that the weight that is lost is not usually fat reserve when on a diet like this, depending upon how the exact menu is planned.
Some people may think that the Atkins diet involves the implementation of the grapefruit diet as well. However, Atkins dieters are not limited to as few of foods as the person who would be on a grapefruit or other one-food diet (eaten along with one or two other types of food in a day).
Consult A Doctor Before Starting Any Diet It is so important that you consult a doctor before choosing any diet. A doctor will give you a checkup and then will help determine what number of calories and what amount of each nutrient you would need in one day. A dietician can also help you in regards to meal planning. Usually diets that are prescribed by a doctor or a dietician include foods that contain a variety of nutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, and calcium. Therefore, most people usually are prescribed diets that contain meats, grains, vegetables, and dairy products. Foods that would fit into one or more of the above-mentioned nutritional categories include whole grain bread, cereal, chicken, fish, beef (in moderation), cheese, milk, oranges, carrots, spinach, tomatoes, and apples. Nuts and seeds also fit into one of the nutritional categories as part of a daily diet. There may be special diets that are arranged for those who have diabetes, heart disease, or other health problems. These are arranged by both the discretion of health advisors and individuals.
