“Diet by disease” refers to the types of nutrients that are needed by the body in order to treat a specific disease. This article explains the different needs of the human diet by disease. One essential nutrient of the body is calcium. Without it people could end up with osteoporosis, which is a serious bone disease. Those who do not take in enough calcium in their bodies will also be likely to develop other problems such as muscle contraction or blood coagulations. Eating enough milk, cheese, and other diary products and/or taking enough vitamin supplements is what will help keep a person’s body strong. Fiber is another very important nutrient that the body needs. Without enough fiber a person is at a higher risk for rectum and colon cancer as well as coronary heart disease. Therefore, a moderate amount of fiber is essential to the body’s health. This particular nutrient is found in bran, vegetables, and whole grains.
There are also certain substances that will also hinder a person’s health if too much of these are consumed. For instance, too high of an amount of saturated fats and/or sodium in the diet can cause high blood pressure, diabetes, heart failure, and high cholesterol levels.
Too much alcohol causes health problems as well. The biggest effect of drinking too much alcohol would be that of liver cancer. Furthermore, alcohol can cause cancer of the mouth, throat, larynx, and esophagus. Nitrates should also be regulated in the diet because they are also known to cause cancer. Therefore, a person is advised to watch how much processed foods that they eat. For maximum health and minimum disease or cancer a person is advised to eat a balanced diet that includes foods that contain some of the nutrients that are mentioned above. The human body also needs certain amounts of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and proteins along with a limited supply of carbohydrates. Different vitamins and minerals help strengthen a body’s immune system. Furthermore, proteins will help keep the muscles of the body function properly, and carbohydrates are important for producing energy that the body needs.
